You have my absolute empathy! While my joints are thus far stable at 67 (we share a March birthday, so it will be 68), I have had a benign brain tumor removed and now it's regrowing. My balance nerve is damaged and I am deaf in one ear. Walking now feels like tap dancing on a balance beam. The falls are an interesting new experience!
I'm happy for you that you are able to take control of some of it. You can exercise, you can build your muscles back up. For me the control is non-existent. I just have to keep thinking about ever new ways to reinvent myself. "Who knew that sitting still could feel so good?"
Good luck, keep plugging and keep finding ways to laugh. I took my first fall while playing hopscotch with my grandsons. That story still gets a good laugh at parties.
