What Should We Do on Monday?

How ironic and sad that Trump’s coronation and MLK’s holiday are on the same day.

So what is everyone planning to do on Monday, inauguration day?

I have to have a blood test, so some pain is in store, and that is fitting. But when I get home, I will studiously avoid watching the horror that will unfold in Washington DC.

It might be good to watch some of those wonderfully uplifting American movies from the past. Maybe the movie ‘Dave’ would be a good choice? A movie in which a funny, gentle, average guy gets to step into the shoes of the President and turn the office into a power for good.

Unbelievable, but uplifting.

Or maybe I’ll watch ‘The American President,’ where a decent, honest American President wins both the beautiful girl and the approval of the masses. There’s a scene where the President stands up to his mean-spirited, name-calling opponent with dignity, strength, and a sure sense of right and wrong. I love this scene so much. I yearn for a similar scene from a Democrat someday.

I might even watch ‘Wag the Dog’, which is far closer to reality than either of the feel-good choices above. This is a movie about the sex scandals, misdeeds, lies, and misleading that come out of the White House and the political parties. It makes me laugh, but I am afraid that on…
