Trump Has Some Explaining to Do

Even for Trump, these recent decisions are insane

I have long since given up trying to understand or explain the bizarre workings of Donald Trump’s brain. It would be too easy to say the man is stupid: clearly, he is not. He has manipulated the press, the voters, and the business world with unmatched success. He’s no idiot.

But he is a Machiavellian genius at brutalizing reality. He has a pretzel logic twist to every ugly one of his actions. Gaslighting is his forte.

So how are we supposed to make sense of the circus parade of nominations he has made to his cabinet?

A pedophile for Attorney General, a possible Russian asset for Director of National Intelligence? A conspiracy theorizing anti-vaxxer for Director of Health and Human Services? What can we possibly think about these choices? Is he playing with us, hoping we’ll all be so enranged that we won’t remember the day he pushed his followers to violently attack the Capitol and steal the election for himself?

All of this is just mind spinning, at least to me. I can’t begin to guess at what he thinks he’s doing with this dog and pony show.
