Time to Declare Our Independence

No more party loyalty for me

So you know, when the famous “Founding Fathers” wrote our Declaration of Independence, they were making a solid case for why they wanted to be free of British rule. They didn’t want to have to swear loyalty to the King of England. They had had enough.

They spent a lot of words explaining why they no longer wanted to be loyal subjects of the British monarchy. If I may be so bold as to paraphrase one of our most cherished documents, they said that since the King didn’t listen to them or understand what they wanted, the hell with him. They weren’t willing to keep pledging their undying loyalty to a leader more interested in himself than in what was good for them.

They rebelled. They tossed him out. They gave him the old Yankee Doodle kick in the ass.

I totally get it. I understand the frustration. I can see why they were frustrated at being overlooked and simply assumed to be obedient little minions.

I get it because this is exactly how I feel about the two corrupt, selfish, corporate political parties in the US.

I used to be a Democrat. I thought it was good enough to be slightly more progressive than the Republicans. Sure, I told myself, they don’t support everything I want, but they’re better than the alternative.
