These Nazi Cowards Must Be Stopped

No decency, no honor, no morality, no right to stand among us

It was 1979. I worked as a Russian interpreter for the organization Jewish Family Services of Boston. I worked with social workers, doctors and government agencies to help Russian Jews as they immigrated from the Soviet Union.

During my years with JFS, I interpreted during a birth, a cardiac catheterization, a Bar Mitzvah, and a funeral.

But mostly I interpreted between doctors and their elderly patients. I heard stories about life in the Soviet Union.

And I heard some horrifying stories of the cruelty of the Nazis. Some of these stories continue to replay in my mind all these years later. The people who told these stories of terror and unbearable grief were my gentle heroes. They forced me to understand that those words in the history books were true events that happened to flesh and blood humans. Humans I grew to love.

Perhaps you can understand, then, how the sight of these masked cowards marching around in the streets of an American city makes me want to vomit. It makes this kindly retired teacher want to smash each of them in the face with a brick.
