The Problem Isn’t Trump’s Lies
It isn’t even his crumbling cognition
We know that Trump lies every time he opens his mouth. We know that. We know that he appears to be increasingly unhinged.
There is no point anymore in pointing out the lies, the delusions, or the breakdowns in language. Trump is a mess and everyone knows it.
Oh, I’m sure there are a few MAGA die-hards who honestly believe that Lizard People are trying to abduct kids from pizza parlors or whatever, but they don’t really matter. They’re as crazy as he is.
It seems to me that the real problem facing this country is the huge number of otherwise intelligent Republicans who insist on overlooking reality. Their guy is a doddering old crook but they can’t admit that.
They seem to be playing their own game of make-believe. I have heard people explaining the rantings of Trump by using the phrase, “I think what he really means is…..” and then giving a watered-down, gentle version of his actual words. Trump claimed that his crowd on Jan. 6 was bigger than that of Martin Luther King at his “I have a dream” speech. This is, of course, completely delusional, as MLK drew five times the number of attendees.
