The Former Guy is Doing it Again

And the media is aiding and abetting him

When the lumpy orange figure of the world’s biggest con artist appeared on the escalator of Trump Tower in 2015, most of us just laughed and chalked it up to another buffoon thinking he had the chops to run the country.

Sure, we snickered, this self-described business genius will take his long list of bankruptcies and failures right onto the world stage. As if he has a snowball’s chance in hell of actually winning a primary.

He was such a caricature of an egomaniac that we thought his second attempt at running for President would flare out just like his first. Most of us settled back to enjoy the show.

And it certainly was that.

From that very first speech at Trump Tower, Donald Trump managed to grab ahold of the world’s media and hold it hostage to his will. CNN seemed to have him on the air every hour, giving him free air time and constant coverage. He was a “name” and having him on seemed like it would be good for ratings.

And every time it seemed as if he might just have shot himself in the foot (by disparaging the captivity of John McCain in Vietnam, or mocking a disabled reporter, for example), Trump found a way to shove himself back into the center of attention. The media, both print and…
