It seems that my point wasn’t as clear as I’d intended. What I believe is that every elected official who swore an oath to the constitution should follow it. Without regard for the next election, or the power balance in Congress or what the “other side” will or will not do.

While I deplore the GOP’s silence and inaction, Im even more disappointed that the Democrats aren’t even (up until now) willing to TRY to hold Trump accountable. My disgust with the D’s is that the arguments against impeachment have included lack of public support and the fact that the Senate won’t convict, so we shouldn’t stand up and declare publicly that we firmly believe that the President has violated the constitution and the law.

It’s just morally weak. And it means, as I said, that in the future any President will have a free pass to break any law they want AS LONG AS THEY CONTROL THE SENATE.

That wasn’t true during Watergate. I’m disgusted to realize that it’s true now.
