I Will Rock You
I didn’t understand that when they said, “It goes so fast,” they really meant it.
I’m the Mom of three kids. While they were little ones, I was also teaching special education in a school district 45 minutes away from home. I was, to put it very mildly, tired. A lot.
My first child, my daughter, had a constant issue with ear infections. We spent many nights up with hot packs, pain meds, and a hot pan of Vicks to try to ease her discomfort.
Our second child, our first son, was a robust and rugged little guy who unfortunately inherited his Dad’s chronic allergies. He experienced a hundred viruses and sinus, ear, and chest infections. I spent many, many long nights rocking him in our pale blue recliner, in front of late-night TV.
And then we had our third child, another little boy. He was strong and healthy at birth, but as we learned over the next few years, he was allergic to “anything that isn’t a rock.” Grass, trees, flowers, rabbits, dogs, cats, horses, tree nuts, seafood. He was a sneezing, wheezing mess for most of the first 8 years of his life.
So he and I spent many, many nights rocking in that same recliner, watching more middle-of-the-night TV shows on the relatively new cable stations.
