I feel the exact same way. I wrote my first letter to an elected official 50 years ago.....still in the same damn boat. My three kids were involved (and arrested!) with Occupy Wall Stree. My middle child told me then, "Time to burn it down and start again. Like restoring the forest with a fire." Sigh.
