I Do Not Care About Your “Second Amendment Rights”
Not even a little
I live in one of the few Republican-dominated small towns in rural Massachusetts. I love it here because we are surrounded by woods, streams, and wildlife. Neighbors here are friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. When you need to go to the local hospital for something, you’re bound to run into an acquaintance either waiting to see a doctor or waiting to take your blood pressure.
We have lots of hunters here. Because we have lots of deer and way too many turkeys around, folks can get fresh meat for free. People here hunt and enjoy what they have been able to provide for their families. They share their bounty with the people around them.
We’ve been here for almost 34 years. We generally feel safe.
But recently my radar has been triggered by a couple of things in this small town. About two miles from here there is a collection of businesses on a fairly large road that intersects two towns. A pizza place, an antique store, a couple of Chinese restaurants, and a gas station/liquor store. We even have a seasonal hot dog stand. I’ve been in and out of all of them at one time or another.
A few weeks ago as I was coming through this tiny business area, I noticed a building with a sign that said only “America Rising.” There was an…
