Glimmer #24 Feeling Like a Kid Again
The best thing about spending your time with kids is that you get a chance to feel like one again. It might be hearing your favorite old nursery rhymes or eating an oreo with milk. Sometimes I get flashbacks to my childhood when my grandchildren are here and they ask to play checkers or “Sorry.”
Today was one of those days. It’s been a rough couple of weeks around here so I wasn’t in the best of moods when I picked grandson Max up from preschool. Let’s just say that we woke up to the sound of the carbon monoxide detector beeping. All was fine (we kinds sorta maybe forgot to replace it for a couple of decades……) but what with the lingering Covid headache and the interrupted sleep, Nonni was not as chipper as usual.
Max is a bit addicted to his iPad, like many kids. We are careful about encouraging him to do other things, so we often introduce an activity we know he likes or one that he hasn’t done for a while. The two of us decided this afternoon that we should clean out his art supplies to see what we could make.
One hour and seven million crayons, markers, chalk bits, pompoms and popsicle sticks later we tried to think of something fun to create. Max grabbed some glue and a pile of popsicle sticks and made a “thing” out of a gallon of glue and four sticks stacked together. Cool.
