When terrorists attacked Israel last October, the world was aghast. The attack was shocking in its brutality as well as its surprising effectiveness. How could this have happened to one of the most well-defended military powers?
Everyone knew that Israel would strike back and strike hard. Every breath was held.
Now we find ourselves, ten months later, horrified and seemingly helpless as Israel systematically demolishes the occupied territory of Gaza. To date, more than 40,000 people have been murdered in Gaza, approximately half of them children. Hospitals have been reduced to dust, schools housing refugees have been flattened, mosques and churches are daily targets.
The UN has issued a report accusing both Hamas and Israel of committing war crimes.
Despite everything that has happened, the US continues to back the deeply unpopular, corrupt Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu. Tens of thousands of Israelis have been protesting against the PM for many months. Most people recognize the fact that Bibi is using the war as a way to keep himself out of jail. But President Joe Biden has insisted on loyalty to our old ally. Criminal or not, Israel is America’s best buddy.
