Age Is Actually Far More Than a Number

And it isn’t all in your attitude, either

I try to keep a positive outlook on life. I really do. I have fully embraced the idea that our attitude can shape our experiences.

But I had an experience today that got me thinking. There is a limit to what our positivity can accomplish.

I had to have an MRI today, just to check on the little remnants of the benign tumor that was removed a year and a half ago. The procedure was painless and quick, and I didn’t mind it at all. I was chatting with the kind young medical tech who was helping out. I commented on the fact that the background music in the clinic was from the 70’s (the Rolling Stones) and I said, “Makes me feel young again!” He answered with a smile, “Oh, you are young! You know it’s all in your head.”

He meant well, and I knew it, but to be honest, I kind of wanted to smack him in his handsome unlined face.

“Actually, it isn’t in my head. It’s in my eyesight, my hearing loss, and my achy joints. My body is truly aging and I can’t think that away.”
