A few months ago I had a 12 hour brain surgery to remove a benign tumor. I was put out and brought back with a 12 hour interval that to me felt like less than one second. Ever since, I have been wondering where my "self" was during that time. I understand now, in a truly visceral way, that life/spirit/soul can be removed from the body and yet go on.
