A Cautionary Tale For the Progressive Left
As a life-long progressive thinker, I have always told myself that we lefties are the ones who are open-minded and accepting of others. I have believed, and often said, that it is the narrow-minded thinking of the right wing that causes the outbursts of rage and hate when people try to discuss politics or society.
Welcome to the new world order. I was wrong.
During the last election cycle, I talked to some of my democratic family and friends about how unhappy I am with the two-party system. I was unprepared, to say the least, for the powerful pushback that I got from my comments. I had to retreat to my corner after daring to mention a possible vote for a third party.
This cycle is even worse.
Yesterday a friend of mine posted a meme on social media about Trump. It said something along the lines of “How could you ever vote for a guy who……” and named one or two of thousands of lies, crimes, and insults. I agree with her 100%! How could anyone so demean their vote by casting it for a criminal lunatic?
But even as I was hitting the “like” button, another thought popped into my head.
“And how can I ever vote for a guy who vetoed a UN attempt to have a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza?”
